Ryanair Boeing 737-800 Returns to Faro Due to Door Open Indication

On 20 January 2025, a Ryanair Boeing 737-800, registration EI-DCR, operating as flight FR-2341 from Faro, Portugal, to Newcastle, England, encountered a door open indication shortly after departure. The flight crew halted the climb at FL110 and decided to return to Faro as a precautionary measure. The aircraft landed safely on Faro’s runway 28 approximately 40 minutes after departure.

Passengers on social media exaggerated the incident, claiming that a door had flown open mid-flight. However, Portugal’s Office of Prevention and Investigation of Aeronautical Accidents (GPIAA) clarified that the issue was limited to an indication problem. According to the GPIAA, no structural or functional issues with the door were found, and there are no grounds for further investigation at this time.

A replacement aircraft, another Boeing 737-800 with registration EI-ENC, was dispatched to complete the journey. The replacement flight departed after a delay of approximately 4.5 hours but was unable to land in Newcastle due to a night curfew. It subsequently diverted to Manchester and later to Edinburgh to accommodate passengers.
